Homemade Caramel (dulce de leche)
- One 14 ounce can Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk).
Directions Cooking in the can
Remove the label, and place on a saucer (to prevent a rust ring from the metal can) in the bottom of a crockpot and fully submerge with water. Turn crockpot on low and let cook for about 6 hours. Remove from crockpot and cool (this can explode if you try to open before cooling) for about 3 hours. You can also make this on the stove, on high, FULLY submerged for about 2 1/2 hours.
Directions Cooking in canning jars
Pour the sweetened condensed milk into a jar and put lid on tightly. Turn crockpot on low and let cook for about 6 hours. Remove from crockpot and cool before opening lid.
